OpenCap Video-Based Markerless Motion Capture for Kinematic Analysis (in-person ONLY)
Participate in a Patients as Partners in Research opportunity in-person at the CMTA Patient & Research Summit in San Francisco this October!
Date opportunity is open from: October 9th, 2026 (But participants can pre-consent and do paperwork beforehand, at any point from now until October 9th)
Date opportunity closes: October 11th, 2026
About the Study
The research team at the Stanford University School of Medicine are using OpenCap to develop a “movement” signature, to better understand the progression and symptoms (phenotype) of individuals with CMT. The purpose of this study is to understand movement patterns and how they relate to disease progression, as well as develop a robust dataset for future clinical trial applications.
Participants will provide informed consent with a study coordinator, then do a series of functional assessments such as walking/running 10 meters, Timed-Up and Go Test, Five Time Sit to Stand, arm range of motion, tip toe stand, and jumping. Participants can decline certain tasks if they feel unsafe performing them. The tasks will be recorded by 2-3 cameras and processed by OpenCap software for gait analysis. They will also fill out a short medical history and patient reported outcome survey via a QR code.
Learn More about this study through the following Video Abstract.
Who Can Participate
- All participants with clinically diagnosed CMT
- CMT type/subtype does not need to be known
- Open to all ages and all levels of functional ability
How to Get Involved
This study will take place during the CMTA Summit on October 9-11th, 2026.
The research team from the Stanford University School of Medicine will be running the study during the day, at the Summit venue (Grand Bay Hotel, 223 Twin Dolphin Drive, Redwood City, CA), with exact timings to come. This will be mainly drop in participation, with approximately 25 minutes needed per participant (10 mins for consenting and medical history, 15 mins for the activity).
Participants will be able to reserve specific time slots if they would prefer, by reaching out to the study team TODAY!
Participants can consent on site during the Summit, or can fill out the consent and patient surveys beforehand by reaching out to the study team at the Stanford University School of Medicine, and a coordinator will help them fill out the consent paperwork online. Participants are welcome to reach out to the study team with any questions.
