Dr. Brian Popko specializes in myelin biology, focusing on the cells, oligodendrocytes and Schwann cells, that produce this critical structure of the nervous system and maintain it, as well as disorders that disrupt the myelin sheath. Much of his work is centered on the impact of cytotoxic insults on myelinating cells and on ways to protect these cells from such insults.
