Christopher Klein, MD

Mayo Clinic
Rochester, Minnesota
Professor of Neurology

Dr. Christopher J. Klein has significantly advanced the understanding of Charcot-Marie-Tooth (CMT) disease and related neuropathies through his research on genetic and epigenetic mechanisms. His discovery of DNMT1 mutations in hereditary sensory and autonomic neuropathy type 1E (HSAN1E) revealed the critical role of DNA methylation in neurodegeneration. His work identified novel mutations in TRPV4 and DCAF8, elucidating the genetic basis of various CMT subtypes. Dr. Klein’s application of next-generation sequencing has improved diagnostic precision. With over 250 publications and the Wolfe Research Award from American Neurological Association, his contributions continue to shape CMT research and therapeutic development.
