Robert Burgess, PhD

The Jackson Laboratory
Bar Harbor, Maine

Robert Burgess is a full Professor at the Jackson Laboratory in Bar Habro, ME. The Burgess Lab at the Jackson Laboratory uses mouse models of Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease to understand underlying disease mechanisms to identify therapeutic targets. The animal models are also used in preclinical studies to test the efficacy of various therapeutic approaches.

Currently, the lab is largely focused on forms of CMT caused by dominant mutations in tRNA synthetase genes. They have identified both small molecule and gene therapy approaches that are extremely effective in their mouse models of these disorders, and they are working to translate those results into clinical trials.
