From Queen Square to Dublin 24: Professor Sinéad Murphy Joins the CMTA Centers of Excellence Network

The Charcot-Marie-Tooth Association (CMTA), the world’s largest philanthropic funder of Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease (CMT) research, is excited to announce the designation of Professor Sinéad Murphy, Consultant Neurologist at Tallaght University Hospital in Dublin, Ireland, as its newest CMTA Center of Excellence. 

Professor Murphy is a Clinical Associate Professor at Trinity College Dublin and currently serves as Clinical Lead of the HSE National Clinical Programme for Neurology. She has deep expertise in inherited neuropathies and leads neuromuscular and neuropathy clinics at Tallaght University Hospital. She also co-leads the National Ataxia Clinic and directs the Irish site of the European Reference Network for Rare Neurological Diseases (ERN-RND). 

After completing neurology training, Professor Murphy was awarded the HSE Dr. Richard Steevens Scholarship and a Rare Disease Inherited Neuropathy Consortium Fellowship through the National Institutes of Health (NIH). She trained with Professor Mary Reilly, MD, MBE, at the MRC Centre for Neuromuscular Diseases, UCL National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery, Queen Square, London, UK 

Professor Murphy provides specialized care for adults with CMT through the Department of Neurology at Tallaght University Hospital, with coordinated referrals to physical therapy, occupational therapy, orthopedics, orthotics, and other services as needed.

This designation marks the first CMTA Center of Excellence in Ireland, expanding access to expert CMT care for individuals and families across the country and broader region.
