Kim was diagnosed with CMT at 18 years old, at which time it was determined that her dad and grandmother also had CMT. Kim is a triplet and also has twin half-brothers. Some of her siblings show signs of CMT but have not been diagnosed. Like many others facing the physical challenges of the disease, Kim has pursued various intellectual and creative outlets, including earning degrees in psychology and the law, publishing a fiction-fantasy trilogy, writing poetry, and self-study in topics such as metaphysics, physics, mindfulness and personal development. Kim spent many years trying to hide and avoid her diagnosis, but recently she has come to embrace both the changes in her body and the support from the CMTA community. She looks forward to becoming a source of support and education for others in the community as Hackensack's Branch Leader.
