THE CHARCOT-MARIE-TOOTH ASSOCIATION SUPPORTS THE ACCELERATING KIDS’ ACCESS TO CARE ACT (H.R.4758 / S.2372)
The Accelerating Kids’ Access to Care Act (H.R.4758 / S.2372) is a bipartisan bill that aims to simplify the Medicaid enrollment process, allowing out-of-state providers to remain enrolled in a state’s Medicaid program for five years. This will reduce the administrative burden on families, streamline access to essential care, and help prevent further disease progression due to bureaucratic delays.
“The Charcot-Marie-Tooth Association (CMTA) supports the Accelerating Kids’ Access to Care Act,” said CMTA CEO Sue Bruhn, PhD. “By supporting this bill, we can help children with Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease (CMT) receive the care they need without unnecessary delays. With the help of the CMT community, we can take action by contacting our members of Congress and urge them to pass H.R. 4758 / S. 2372.”
Children living with CMT deserve access to the care they need, regardless of where they live. However, when families cross state lines to seek specialized care, they face significant barriers. Each time they do, medical providers must reenroll in the family’s home state’s Medicaid program, creating unnecessary delays, frustrations, and potential risks to the child’s health as their condition progresses.
