The Charcot-Marie-Tooth Association (CMTA), the world’s largest philanthropic funder of research aimed at bringing treatments to patients and improving the lives of those living with Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease (CMT), is thrilled to announce the designation of a new CMTA Center of Excellence at the Indiana University School of Medicine (IUSM) Neurology Clinic in Indianapolis, IN.

Leading this exceptional center is Dr. Laurie Gutmann, MD, Professor and Chair of Neurology and Co-Director of the Neuroscience Institute at IUSM. Dr. Gutmann brings decades of clinical and research expertise to this role, including a longstanding focus on hereditary neuromuscular disorders. She is board-certified in Neurology, Clinical Neurophysiology, and Neuromuscular Medicine, with experience at leading institutions such as West Virginia University, University of Iowa, and NINDS/NIH.

The multidisciplinary clinic at the Indiana University School of Medicine offers a wide range of services to adults living with CMT. The team includes neurology specialists, physical and occupational therapists, genetic counselors, orthotists, physiatrists, nurse practitioners, and social workers. Additional specialized care, such as pulmonology and cardiology, is available as needed. Together, this collaborative approach ensures each patient receives a tailored care plan designed to improve their quality of life.

With this new addition in Indianapolis, the CMTA’s Centers of Excellence network has grown to more than 60 locations globally, advancing the organization’s mission of providing best-in-class care to individuals and families affected by CMT.
