The Charcot-Marie-Tooth Association (CMTA), the world’s largest philanthropic funder of research aimed at bringing treatments to patients and improving the lives of those living with Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease (CMT), is thrilled to announce the designation of a new CMTA Center of Excellence at Duke University Hospital in Durham, North Carolina.
Leading the center is Dr. Natalie Katz, MD, Assistant Professor in the Department of Pediatrics, Division of Neurology at Duke University, and Co-Director of the Duke Children’s Neuromuscular Program. Dr. Katz is a renowned child neurology-trained neuromuscular specialist with extensive clinical and research experience. Her work focuses on pediatric neuromuscular diseases, including CMT, Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, spinal muscular atrophy, and other rare neuromuscular diseases. She is committed to advancing therapeutic options through her involvement in clinical trials and groundbreaking research.

The Duke Children’s Neuromuscular Center offers a multidisciplinary approach to care, providing neurology, physical therapy, occupational therapy, genetic counseling, orthopedic surgery, nutrition services, and social work. The team is committed to addressing the unique needs of children with CMT and tailoring comprehensive treatment plans to improve their quality of life.
This new center adds to the CMTA’s growing global network of more than 60 Centers of Excellence, all dedicated to delivering the highest standard of care to individuals affected by CMT.
