Welcome to our Branch

What Are CMTA Branches?

CMTA Branches are volunteer-led local support and education groups for those living with Charcot-Marie-Tooth (CMT) disease and their loved ones. We invite all community members to join these vibrant groups of active and caring individuals in your area to share resources, ideas, CMT-related information, and personal experiences and to, ultimately, build life-long friendships and support. Meetings focus on CMT education, awareness, research updates, fundraising initiatives, advocacy, and current events and will include guest speakers. The branches also offer a meaningful outlet for connecting with others who have CMT. All are welcome to join a branch near them or to participate in a virtual branch meeting.

I was born 1957 in Royal Oak, Michigan, and graduated in 1979 from Central Michigan University with a BS in Education K-8 regular ed and K-12 special education. After one year teaching in Michigan, I ventured North to Alaska where I landed my first teaching position in a rural village in Southwest Alaska. Here I met my husband, Kim, and together we taught in different villages in rural Alaska and raised three children. In 1998, we moved to a community closer to Anchorage where I earned a Masters in Education with an emphasis in Preschool Special Education. I taught in preschool special education classrooms from 1998 to 2014. My story of CMT is long and layered but the short version is that I was diagnosed in 2012 through nerve conductive tests and a muscle biopsy. I am looking forward to supporting others with CMT!
