Welcome to our Branch

What Are CMTA Branches?

CMTA Branches are volunteer-led local support and education groups for those living with Charcot-Marie-Tooth (CMT) disease and their loved ones. We invite all community members to join these vibrant groups of active and caring individuals in your area to share resources, ideas, CMT-related information, and personal experiences and to, ultimately, build life-long friendships and support. Meetings focus on CMT education, awareness, research updates, fundraising initiatives, advocacy, and current events and will include guest speakers. The branches also offer a meaningful outlet for connecting with others who have CMT. All are welcome to join a branch near them or to participate in a virtual branch meeting.

Branch Leader Picture
Laurel and her family moved back to Wilmington, North Carolina in 2013 after her husband retired from the Marine Corps. They love this area and are thrilled to be part of this beautiful community. They have two teenagers who keep them very busy: Sophie is 17 and Jack is 15. Laurel was diagnosed with CMT1A when she was 6-years-old, but did not become too symptomatic until her 30's. She opted to start wearing Allard Blue Rocker braces a few years ago and the quality of her life has GREATLY improved! She is once again able to chase her kiddos, play tennis, hike with the family, and, due to improved balance, not worry about tripping with each step. She is excited to be part of the CMTA Wilmington Branch!
